Steve Webster

(Photo by Andrew Redington/Getty Images)Steve Webster is a European Tour golfer who currently ranks within the top 10 on both the European Ryder Cup Points List and the World Ryder Cup Points List - the two lists from which Team Europe players will be selected for the 2008 Ryder Cup Matches.

As an amateur player, Steve Webster won the 1993 Peter McEvoy Trophy. In 1995, he tied 24th in the Open Championship at St Andrews, and began a career as a professional golfer after winning the European Tour Qualifying School. In 1996, he gained only a 129th position on the European Tour and so returned to Qualifying School - where he regained membership of the Tour. Since then, he has continued to perform well, falling within the top 100 on the Order of Merit each year.

In 2002, Steve Webster appeared on the winning Great Britain & Ireland team for the Seve Trophy.

In 2005, Steve Webster won his first European Tour event at the Telecom Italia Open. As a result of this victory, he made it into the top 30 - ranking number 29 - on the European Order of Merit list. Webster's second European Tour victory came in 2007, with a win in the inaugural Portugal Masters at Oceanico Victoria Golf Club.
