Ryder Cup Travel
The 2008 Ryder Cup Matches are due to be held at the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. Louisville is especially famous for the Kentucky Derby horse race, which has been run annually since 1875. Recently, it has also been host to some of the most prestigious golf tournaments on the PGA calendar - including the US PGA Championships in 1996 and 2000, the PGA Club Professional Championship in 2002 and the US Senior PGA Championship in 2004.
Valhalla Golf Club is located to the east of central Louisville, just outside the Gene Snyder Freeway, at 15503 Shelbyville Road.
Ryder Cup Travel from downtown Louisville
To reach Valhalla Golf Club by car from downtown Louisville:
- drive east on W Jefferson Street and turn left onto S Roy Wilkins Avenue
- take the ramp onto I-64 E and continue for about 15 miles
- take exit 19B onto the Gene Snyder Freeway/I-265 N
- from the Freeway, take exit 27 and then turn right onto Shelbyville Road
- continue for about 3 minutes to reach the Valhalla Golf Club
Ryder Cup Travel from the Airport
Louisville International Airport is situated 7 miles from downtown Louisville. It is served by a large number of domestic carriers, and has connections to most major cities in the United States. Valhalla Golf Club is about 18½ miles from the airport.
To get to Valhalla Golf Club from the airport:
- drive south on Terminal Drive
- take the I-65/I-264 E ramp to downtown Louisville and continue toward the Henry Watterson Expressway/I-264 E
- from the Expressway, take exit 19A to merge onto I-64 E toward Lexington
- take exit 19B onto the Gene Snyder Freeway/I-265 N
- from the Freeway, take exit 27 and then turn right onto Shelbyville Road
- continue for about 3 minutes to reach the Valhalla Golf Club
