David Toms

US golfer David Toms appeared on Team USA in the 2002, 2004, and 2006 Ryder Cup Matches. He currently ranks among the top 20 on the Ryder Cup points list for the 2008 competition.

David Toms has consistently ranked within the top 50 in the Official World Golf Rankings. In both 2002 and 2003, he ranked as high as number 5.

David Toms was born in Monroe in northeastern Louisiana. His golfing career took off early, with a win of the 15 to 17 boys' event at the 1984 Junior World Golf Championships.

After attending Louisiana State University, he joined the PGA Tour in 1992. Since then, he has won a total of 12 PGA Tour events, including the 2001 PGA Championship in Atlanta. At the PGA Championship, he set the all-time record for the lowest 72-hole score for any major championship, coming out at 265 after 72 holes. He won the PGA Championship by one stroke, against runner-up Phil Mickelson.

For the 2007 PGA Tour season, David Toms ranked 32nd, with total earnings of $2,095,837. Notable finishes that have complemented his high ranking in the US Ryder Cup points list include coming third in the Stanford St. Jude Championship, fifth in the US Open Championship, sixth in the Travelers Championship, and eighth in the Mercedes-Benz Championship. He took ninth positions in the World Golf Championships, the Accenture Match Play Championship, and the Masters Tournament.
