Nick Faldo
Nick Faldo, born 18 July, 1957, is one of the most successful European golf players of all time. He has won an astonishing total of 27 European Tour events - including three Open Championship titles, as well as three US Masters titles. He was ranked first in the Official World Golf Rankings for a total of 98 weeks. For 2008, Nick Faldo will be the European Ryder Cup captain.
Nick Faldo gained prominence during the 1980s, although those years also saw him earn a reputation for choking in the bigger events. He sought to improve his swing under the guidance of David Leadbetter - a decision that paid off when he won at the 1987 British Open. He silenced remaining critics by winning six Majors, including three US Masters and three Open Championships.
In 1992, Faldo became the first European golfer to win more than £1 million in prize money in a single season. England earned its first World Cup of Golf victory when Faldo partnered with David Carter in Auckland in 1998.
Nick Faldo is one of the most successful players in Ryder Cup history. He has represented Europe in the Ryder Cup Matches a record of 11 times and is highly credited for the victories of the European team. He holds the most Ryder Cup records of any player.
In 1997, Nick Faldo was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. Golf Digest magazine ranked him as the 18th greatest golf players of all time in 2000.
